I was responding to Roxanne & Shannon Moore's blog about Yahoo vs. Google and as I rambled on an on, it seemed like my comment would be better off being a seperate blog entry.
I *greatly* prefer Google over Yahoo. Yahoo seems to put way too much weight on paid directory entries and sometimes returns really goofy results for searches.
If you like the news and other stuff Yahoo puts on their portal page, you can *fully* customize the same thing with Google. (a surprising number of people are unaware of this feature). You'll need a Google account, but should probably have one anyway (it's free). For the Google "desktop", go here: http://www.google.com/ig to see the "modules" you can add to your Google home page, go here: http://www.google.com/ig/directory (there are dozens of PAGES of modules available).
The home page customization, and all of the other things Google offers (toolbar, Picassa, Maps, Desktop search, web and news Alerts, Notebook, GMail, Calendar, the list goes on and on) makes it far superior to Yahoo, MSN, AOL or any other "portal" site in my opinion. If someone isn't aware of some of the extra things Google has to offer, you should visit http://labs.google.com
Google's latest offering, Spreadsheets, allows people to share spreadsheets across the web. It's probably got Bill Gates looking over his shoulder. Google is an amazing company with amazing products. Google is THE king of search, and more...

Yeah, Google is pretty darn neat. After seeing a number of once popular search engines come and go, I keep waiting for Google to fade and someone else step into the limelight. But, just when I think they might become stale, they come out with another new (and free!) application to keep them on top of the heap.
A short time ago, Google Earth was the new item. Then we had Picassa. Now we have Spreadsheets. All of these (and the others not mentioned) are really useful programs and I find myself using a lot of them frequently.
Thanks for the post!
There is a difference between Google and Yahoo! Google is actually a search engine and Yahoo! is a directory.
I like them both, but prefer to do my searches in Google.
Most of my traffic comes from Google, the other search engines are "also rans".
